Updated: May 29, 2012 11:58PM

Steve Gertz has accepted the athletic director position as Grayslake Central High School and will be leaving that same post at Burlington Central at the end of the school year.

Gertz took over at Central for the retiring Dan Cliffe in 2010. He is a former athletic director and baseball coach at Streamwood High School.

Central principal Matt Haug said in a press release: “Over the past two years, (Gertz) has been instrumental in improving our facilities, establishing consistency in our school and athletics, created a Student Athletics and Activities Advisory Club, helped improve school and staff spirit, increased communication and has been very active in the community. (Gertz) has also been very active as the district’s Facility Use/Rental Coordinator.”

Gertz moves into the Grayslake Central athletic director role previously filled by Tom Kim, the former Elgin football coach. Kim is taking a new position as assistant principal at Grayslake Central.
