Roundup: Bartlett baseball, softball claim regional crowns

Bartlett pushed across one run in the top of the first inning and never relinquished its lead while knocking off the host team 5-3 in the championship game of the Class 4A Lake Park Regional on Saturday.
Junior ace Colin Nowak went the distance on the mound and racked up 14 strikeouts as the 16th-seeded Hawks followed up their stunning semifinal upset of top seed Geneva by toppling the eighth-seeded Lancers. The regional title is the second in program history for Bartlett (19-19) and first since 2002.
Robert Smith went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and Ryan Karrick was 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Hawks. Nowak also contributed an RBI for Bartlett, which moves on to play 13th-seeded Willowbrook in the Schaumburg Sectional on Wednesday.
St. Charles East 5, Glenbard East 3
Troy DeFilippis belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning as the third-seeded Saints knocked off the 11th-seeded Rams to win their own Class 4A St. Charles East Regional.
DeFilippis went 2-for-3 and Tommy Wilson was also 2-for-3 for St. Charles East (25-10), which claimed its third straight regional title. The Saints take on No. 10 Schaumburg in the Schaumburg Sectional on Wednesday.
Nick Huskisson (5-3) picked up the win for St. Charles East after allowing three earned runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Schaumburg 2, St. Charles North 1
The second-seeded North Stars saw their one-run lead slip away as the 10th-seeded Saxons posted single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings in the championship game of the Class 4A York Regional.
Jake Smiley drove in the only run for St. Charles North (24-13). Jake Johansmeier (3-4) took the loss on the mound after allowing two earned runs on four hits in seven innings. He struck out nine and walked one.
SOFTBALL
Bartlett 2, Glenbard West 0
The second-seeded Hawks claimed their first regional title since 2009 by edging the seventh-seeded Hilltoppers in the championship game of their own Class 4A Bartlett Regional.
Tori Burke was the winning pitcher for the Hawks, who move on to play West Chicago on Thursday in the semifinals of the Lake Park Sectional.
Jacobs 1, Cary-Grove 0
The second-seeded Golden Eagles mustered just enough offense to topple the top-seeded Trojans in the championship game of the Class 4A Huntley Regional.
Katie Kirker was the winning pitcher for Jacobs, which moves on to play Thursday in the semifinals of the Cary-Grove Sectional.
Glenbard North 7, St. Charles North 4
The 10th-seeded North Stars couldn’t muster quite enough offense as their upset bid fell short against the top-seeded Panthers in the championship game of the Class 4A St. Charles North Regional.
Fremd 14, South Elgin 0
The 11th-seeded Storm was no match for the third-seeded Vikings in the championship game of the Class 4A Fremd Reigional.
