Roundup: St. Charles North, St. Charles East tie for second

St. Charles North’s Danny Oakes and Dominic Almalraj teamed up beat Elgin’s Eric Chai and Sadka Ketdy 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles championship match at the Upstate Eight River meet, which concluded Monday.
The victory helped the North Stars finish in a tie for second place with St. Charles East. Both teams wound up with 58 team points, narrowly losing out to conference champion Batavia’s 60 points.
St. Charles North’s Grant Spellman and Bobby Dunteman also won the title at No. 2 doubles. St. Charles East’s lone first-place finish came from sophomore Justin Bowman at No. 2 singles while the Saints got a second-place showing from Jasper Konen, who lost 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
Rounding out the standings were Geneva (53) in fourth, Elgin (39) in fifth and Larkin (24) in sixth. Streamwood was seventh after failing to record a point.
BASEBALL
Huntley 11, McHenry 1
Dan Lowry, Jake Perkins, Craig Klein and Bryan Doherty combined to throw a no-hitter as the Red Raiders rolled to the Fox Valley Valley victory.
Perkins (4-1) earned the decision after allowing one unearned run in four innings. He struck out four and walked none. Lowry lasted two innings, Klein went one inning and Doherty pitched one inning.
Colin Lyman paced the offense for Huntley (19-14, 10-8) by going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Nick Corplongo (3-for-4, RBI), Kameron Sallee (3-for-4, two runs), Tyler Albright (2-for-4, RBI), Bryce Only (2-for-4, two runs) and Tyler Mindak (2-for-4, two RBI) also had multi-hit games for the Raiders, who committed two errors.
Crystal Lake Central 5, Hampshire 3
The Whip-Purs saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with the FVC Fox loss. Justin Thinger went 2-for-3 with an RBI but also took the pitching defeat after allowing five earned runs on 10 hits in six innings as his record dipped to 1-3.
Luke Wians and Tyler Crater chipped in with one RBI apiece for Hampshire (12-16-1, 6-12).
Batavia 13, Elgin 6
Nick Turner belted a three-run home run, but it wasn’t enough as the Maroons fell short in the Upstate Eight River contest.
Eric Sedlack (2-3) took the loss for Elgin (11-20, 5-17) after allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Waubonsie Valley 4, Bartlett 1
Dan Gallanis had the only RBI for the Hawks as they dropped the resumption of a UEC Valley contest that was suspended in the top of the third inning earlier this month.
Kyle Garcia (1-3) took the loss on the mound after allowing three earned runs on three hits in four innings. He struck out two and walked two for Bartlett (14-17, 10-12).
Stillman Valley 10, Genoa-Kingston 0
The sixth-seeded Cogs were no match for the third-seeded Cardinals in a play-in game in the Class 2A Stillman Valley Regional. Genoa-Kingston finishes the season with a 6-21 record.
SOFTBALL
Jacobs 6, Dundee-Crown 1
The Golden Eagles scored five runs in the first inning in the FVC Valley victory.
Melany Love, Lauren Mercado and Amanda Eissler all went 2-for-4 for Dundee-Crown (7-23). Mercado drove in the only run for the Chargers and Love (4-8) took the pitching loss after allowing two earned runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings.
St. Charles North 2, Trinity 1
Emily Brodner went 2-for-3 with an RBI to help guide the North Stars (17-12) to the nonconference victory at Triton College. Sabrina Rabin (10-14) was the winning pitcher after allowing one earned run and striking out three in a complete-game effort.
McHenry 3, Huntley 1
Ashley Knutsen drove in the lone run for the Red Raiders (7-20, 2-10 FVC Valley). Haley Spannraft pitched all seven innings and took the loss after allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
