Roundup: Burlington Central girls defeat Hampshire

Burlington Central’s girls basketball team built a big cushion early and cruised to a 49-37 nonconference win against rival Hampshire on Saturday.
Sophomore Alison Colby led the way with 11 points for the host Rockets, who jumped out to a 29-11 lead by halftime. Freshman Samantha Pryor and freshman Rebecca Gerke had nine points apiece for Burlington Central (7-1).
Senior Jen Dumoulin tallied a game-high 12 points for the Whip-Purs, who remained winless on the season. Hampshire also got nine points from freshman Emma Beniot and eight points from senior Lizzy Panzica.
Rockford Christian Life 49, Harvest Christian Academy 30
Kylee Knox led the way for the Lions with nine points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals while Anneliese Herman finished with seven points.
Bartlett 43, Waubonsie Valley 36
Juniors Ally Giampapa and Alyssa Hernandez finished with 13 points for the Hawks while Kendall O’Sullivan finished with nine points for the Warriors.
Schaumburg 74, Westminster Christian 60
Maddie Versluys finished with a game-high 22 points for the Warriors while McKaila Hays chipped in with nine.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Chicagoland Jewish 52, Westminster Christian 37
Colin Brandon had 15 points for the Warriors in the nonconference loss. Westminster Christian (3-5) trailed 28-25 at halftime but managed only one point in the third quarter.

St. Charles North places second in 2012 Spartan Sprint Classic
The North Stars were led by senior Austin Stapella’s first-place finish in the 25-yard backstroke and third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.
WRESTLING
Bartlett places second at 40th Mustang Invite
Reigning state champion Sal Annoreno of Bartlett won the Mustang Invite at 145 pounds with two pins in his first two matches and a technical fall in the finals. Connor Johnson (113 pounds), Anthony Zipparro (120 pounds), Brian Boyle (152 pounds) and Ben Wiley (195 pounds) all placed second for the Hawks.
Burlington Central places fifth at Carson DeJarnatt tourney
Sophomore Craig Kein improved his record to 9-3 after finishing in second place for the Rockets at 170 pounds.
GIRLS BOWLING
St. Charles East places 12th at Strikefest
Sophomore Dana Brandt and junior Laura Crocker placed No. 39 and 40 overall respectively for the Saints.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Elgin Community College 64, Wright College 22
The Spartans were led by Carly Saraceno’s 15 points and Alex Dumoulin’s14 points.
