A look at how former area baseball players fared in the minor leagues in the past week:
RYAN COURT
2006 Dundee-Crown graduate
Team: South Bend Silver Hawks (Arizona Diamondbacks — Class A Midwest League)
Update: Court went 2-for-4 with two runs scored Friday against the Western Michigan Whitecaps. The third baseman is batting .226 with one home run, eight RBI and 17 runs scored in 36 games this season.
JAKE GOEBBERT
2006 Hampshire graduate
Team: Oklahoma City Redhawks (Houston Astros — Triple-A Pacific Coast League)
Update: Goebbert has struggled since being called up from Double-A Corpus Christi, going only 2-for-20 in his first eight games with the Redhawks. For the season, the left fielder’s combined numbers between both levels include four home runs, 29 RBI, 35 runs scored and a .262 batting average.
JEFF HOLM
2007 St. Charles North graduate
Team: West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers — Class A Midwest League)
Update: Holm went 1-for-4 with a double, two walks and a run scored Sunday against the South Bend Silver Hawks. The first baseman began the season in the Class A-Advanced Florida State League, and between the two levels has posted a .282 batting average with four home runs and 13 runs scored in 28 games.
DANNY JIMENEZ
2008 St. Charles North graduate
Team: Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Cleveland Indians — Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League)
Update: Jimenez and the Scrappers began their season Monday night against the Jamestown Jammers. The left-handed pitcher posted the second-best ERA in the Indians farm system in 2011 with his 2.39 mark.
KENNY LONG
2007 Dundee-Crown graduate
Team: Tri-City ValleyCats (Houston Astros — Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League)
Update: Long and the ValleyCats began their season Monday night against the Vermont Lake Monsters. The left-handed pitcher was drafted by the Astros earlier this month.
ELLIOT SOTO
2007 Dundee-Crown graduate
Team: Tennessee Smokies (Cubs — Double-A Southern League)
Update: Soto made his first appearance in almost a week Sunday and went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored against the Birmingham Barons. The shortstop is batting .230 with 11 RBI and 12 runs scored in 59 games this season.
