Golf Notes: Connie Ellett advances in State Amateur

Hampshire High School graduate Connie Ellett shot 4-over-par 74 Tuesday at Ravisloe Country Club in Homewood to advance to the championship flight of match play in the 79th State Amateur Championship.

Seventeen-year-old Elizabeth Szokol of Winnetka shot 72 to capture medalist honors. Close behind on the 5,568-yard course was Rockford’s Madasyn Pettersen with a 73.

Joining Ellett as a local player who advanced among the top 32 was Megan Furtney of South Elgin (77).

Wednesday’s Championship Flight competition begins at 7:30 a.m. with the remaining flights to follow.

Spectators are welcome.

Jones makes first hole-in-one

Brad Jones of Elgin made a hole-in-one Tuesday at Golf Club of Illinois. Jones aced the 128-yard fourth hole with a gap wedge.

The shot was witnessed by his father Tim Jones, Jim Dinkheller, Robert Lemke and John Krol.

The elder Jones noted that his son is halfway to his career ace total.
