CLINTON, Iowa — Runey Davis collected two doubles and two RBI to lead the Kane County Cougars to a 5-2 win over Clinton in the first game of a doubleheader Friday night. The host LumberKings bounced back in the nightcap to win 2-0.
Davis delivered a two-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Cougars ahead in Game 1. Moments later, he scored on an RBI single by Yowill Espinal to give Kane County (29-26) an early 3-0 edge.
After Clinton tallied two unearned runs in the third, the Cougars added two runs in the fifth on a RBI single by Orlando Calixte and a sacrifice fly by Lane Adams.
Cody Fassold (1-0) tossed 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief to pick up the victory.
In Game 2, pitcher Angel Baez (1-1) tossed Kane County’s first complete game of the season. He struck out eight, but took the loss as Clinton’s Brett Shankin fired a seven-hit shutout.
