Roundup: St. Charles North nips Conant to stay alive

Adam Delisi came home on a wild pitch with what turned out to be the game-winning run as St. Charles North’s second-seeded baseball team edged No. 15 Conant 4-3 on Wednesday in the semifinals of the Class 4A York Regional.
Jake Smiley and Jake Johansmeier both went 2-for-3 for the North Stars, who move on to Saturday’s championship game against the winner of Thursday’s semifinal between No. 6 York and No. 10 Schaumburg. Andrew Kronke added two RBI for St. Charles North (24-12).
Carl Formento (6-2) picked up the pitching win after allowing three earned runs on eight hits in six innings. He struck out eight and walked one. John Brodner allowed two hits in the seventh but escaped unscathed for the save.
St. Charles East 5, Hoffman Estates 0
Kyle Manske hurled a complete-game shutout as the third-seeded Saints rolled to victory against the 14th-seeded Hawks in the semifinals of the Class 4A St. Charles East Regional.
Manske (8-1) struck out six, walked none and scattered six hits during the dominant outing. Nicholas Erickson (2-for-4, two RBI) and Johnny Hondlik (three RBI) led the offense for St. Charles East (24-10).
Crystal Lake South 12, Dundee-Crown 2
The fourth-seeded Chargers bowed out of the Class 4A Huntley Regional with a loss against the top-seeded Gators. Tyler Gross was tagged with the pitching defeat for Dundee-Crown (9-21-1).
SOFTBALL
South Elgin 7, Lake Zurich 4
The 11th-seeded Storm kept its season alive by upsetting the fifth-seeded Bears in the semifinals of the Class 4A Fremd Regional. South Elgin moves on to play the host Vikings in the championship game at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Jacobs 4, Crystal Lake South 0
McKayla Lein was the winning pitcher as the second-seeded Golden Eagles knocked off the third-seeded Gators at the Class 4A Huntley Regional. Next up for Jacobs is a clash with Cary-Grove in the championship game at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
North Boone 3, Genoa-Kingston 1
The Cogs saw their postseason run come to an end with a loss in the semifinals of their own Class 2A Genoa-Kingston Sectional.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Wheaton North d. St. Charles North
The North Stars bowed out with a 25-18, 25-17 loss in the championship game of the St. Charles East Regional.
