Roundup: Bartlett ousts South Elgin in boys volleyball

Bartlett’s boys volleyball team knocked out rival South Elgin in the quarterfinals of the Elk Grove Regional on Monday.

The 16th-seeded Hawks are moving on thanks to their 25-19, 25-23 victory against the 17th-seeded Storm. Next up for Bartlett is a date with top seed Elk Grove in the semifinals Tuesday.

South Elgin (10-21) got nine kills, three aces and seven digs from Nate Marotta. Trevor Aguiniga added seven kills and Jake Dinneen had 22 assists for the Storm.

St. Charles East d. St. Edward

The 13th-seeded Saints toppled the 20th-seeded Green Wave 25-14, 25-21 in the quarterfinals of their own St. Charles East Regional. Next up for the Saints is rival St. Charles North in semifinal action Tuesday.

Hoffman Estates d. Streamwood

The season came to an end for the Sabres in a 25-20, 25-13 loss in the quarterfinals of the Glenbard North Regional.

Geneva d. Westminster Christian

The 23rd-seeded Warriors were no match for the 10th-seeded Vikings in a 25-8, 25-8 loss in the quarterfinals of the Larkin Regional.

BASEBALL

Marengo 4, Hampshire 2

The fifth-seeded Whip-Purs gave up three runs in the bottom of the fourth and saw their season come to an end with a loss on the road against the fourth-seeded Indians in the opening game of the Class 3A Hampshire Regional.

Dan Guerrero went 2-for-3 for Hampshire (12-18-1), which got RBIs from Brandon Wescher and Piotr Barnas. Justin Thinger (1-4) took the decision after allowing two earned runs on four hits in five innings. He struck out five.

St. Charles East 5, Kaneland 4

Nicholas Erickson went 2-for-3 with three runs scored as the Saints concluded their regular season with a nonconference win.

Joe Hoscheit also aided the offense for St. Charles East (23-10) with three RBI. Matt Starai (2-1) earned the pitching victory.

Lake Zurich 4, Jacobs 1

Mark Self went 2-for-3 with a solo home run for the Golden Eagles (18-15) as they wrapped up the regular season with a nonconference setback. Nick Schmidt (0-2) took the loss after allowing two earned runs on four hits in two innings.

SOFTBALL

Hoffman Estates 4, Larkin 0

The 17th-seeded Royals saw their season come to an end with a loss against the 16th-seeded Hawks at the Class 4A Hoffman Estates Regional.
