Roundup: Bartlett takes rubber game against South Elgin

Dan Gallanis went the distance on the mound and Colin Nowak and Ryan Roszkowiak both homered as Bartlett topped rival South Elgin 4-2 on Thursday.

Gallanis (3-5) struck out six and scattered five hits for the Hawks, who bounced back from a loss against the Storm on Tuesday to win the final two games of the three-game Upstate Eight Valley series. Nowak and Giacomo Visconti both went 2-for-3 for Bartlett (16-18, 12-13).

Andrew Weedman tallied the lone RBI for South Elgin (17-12, 14-11), which has lost eight of its past nine. Alex Wolfe (2-3) took the decision after allowing two earned runs on three hits in one inning in relief of starter David Palmer.

Huntley 7, McHenry 0

Nick Corpolongo went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Bryan Doherty improved to 6-2 by tossing five shutout innings as the Red Raiders (20-14, 11-8 Fox Valley Valley) cruised to victory. Colin Lyman added two hits, doubled, stole a base, scored a run and drove in one for Huntley.

Prairie Ridge 8, Burlington Central 7

Despite Tanner Scott’s area-leading 13th home run of the season, the Rockets (23-9) fell in nonconference action. Kevin Zasada took the loss. Prairie Ridge scored six runs in the bottom the sixth inning — with the help of three Central errors — to erase a 7-2 deficit.

Zach Ranney (3-for-4) and Alex Bell (2-for-3) aided the Rockets offense.

SOFTBALL

Huntley 4, Johnsburg 1

Randi Peterson singled, walked and drove in two runs to aid winning pitcher Haley Spannraft (7-14), who struck out three, walked one and surrendered just two hits for the Red Raiders (8-21, 2-10 FVC Valley).

Waubonsie Valley 4, South Elgin 3 (9 innings)

The Warriors clinched a share of the Upstate Eight Valley crown by outlasting the visiting Storm (13-19, 10-9). Bartlett can win a piece of the title by defeating Lake Park on Friday.

Sam Bolin (10-12) took the loss. South Elgin tied the score in the top of the seventh inning and took a 3-2 lead in the eighth before Waubonsie evened the score and prevailed in the bottom of the ninth.

Victoria Watt went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI for South Elgin and Mallory Mecklenburg was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Larkin 2, Westminster Christian 0

The Royals (9-17) prevailed 25-14, 25-7 and were led by Tim Yang (22 assists), Dylan Martinez (11 kills, two aces) and TJ Weaver (six kills two blocks).

Glenbard West 2, St. Charles North 0

The North Stars fell 25-21, 25-19 as Branden Hoerner (five kills, six digs), Kyle True (10 assists, three digs), Pat Misiewicz (11 assists, three digs) and Josh Shaw (six kills) led the North Stars (20-13).
