St. Edward took a break from Suburban Christian play on Wednesday and welcomed Northridge to Elgin.
If the Green Wave can play the rest of its games like it did against the Knights, St. Edward could be a force to be reckoned with come regional time. St. Edward played a nearly flawless game and defeated the Knights 60-45.
Eddie O’Halloran led St. Edward with 15 points. Adrian Ponce added 12 points, while Antonio Domel scored 10 for the Green Wave.
Not much went wrong for the Green Wave (9-11) against Northridge (12-6). St. Edward shot 59 percent from the field, committed only five turnovers, and went 6-for-6 from three-point range.
St. Edward coach P.J. White was extremely pleased with his team’s effort Wednesday.
“This was the best game we played since I’ve been the coach at St. Ed’s,” said White. “We were patient on offense and shot very well.”
The Green Wave got off to a quick start against the Knights, and never really looked back. St. Edward shot 61 percent in the first half, while Northridge shot only 33 percent.
White was happy with his team giving a 32-minute effort.
“Earlier in the season we seem to have always dug a hole that we couldn’t turn back from,” White said. “Tonight we started fast and kept it going for the entire game.”
Mike Leazer led Northridge with 13 points.
Not only was White impressed with the victory, he was also impressed with who the victory came against.
“Northridge Prep is a really good team. They are very well coached and a tough opponent to prepare for,” said White. “We are in the final stretch of the season and hopefully a win like this against a quality opponent gets us going in the right direction.”
