Elgin basketball legend Flynn Robinson dies at 72

Flynn Robinson, an Elgin native who went on to play eight seasons in the NBA, died Thursday at age 72 in Los Angeles from complications related to cancer. Robinson was a 1959 Elgin High graduate and a member of the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame’s inaugural class in 1980.

Kyle Rohde’s ties to Elgin High’s football program run deep. The 2002 Elgin graduate was hired as the new head coach of the Maroons on Wednesday. He spent the past three years as defensive coordinator under Dave Bierman, who stepped down last fall following five seasons at the helm.
