Rugby: Elgin River Rats on a fast track

In its third season, the 25-man Elgin River Rats rugby club team went 5-0 in the regular season and won its first playoff game last weekend. Next up is a semifinal match against an opponent from Peoria on Saturday at Abbott Field in Elgin.

Aurora gets out to enjoy warm weather

Aurora area residents came out in strength Tuesday to enjoy temperatures that reached into the 80s. It has been a difficult last couple of months weather-wise, with cold, snow, flooding and more, so the warm temperatures and sunny skies were something to savor. Flood waters force residents, businesses to bail water, fill sandbags

The up to 8 inches of rain that fell on the Fox Valley Wednesday and Thursday flooded streets and basements, closed schools and caused everyone to nervously watch the level of every area body of water, especially the Fox River. Fortunately, there are no reports of any deaths connected with the storms. That doesn’t mean there haven’t been plenty of accidents, stranded vehicles and other storm-related emergencies. Many major roadways were shut down throughout DuPage, Kane and Kendall counties, which are among the hardest hit by the flooding and storms. Turnout sets new low as Fox Valley voters choose city, school candidates

“Dismal” was the word that Kane County Clerk Jack Cunningham used to describe voter turnout countywide as voters across Illinois voted today in the “2013 consolidated spring election” for city and village officials, school boards, community college boards, township leaders and library district boards. After polls closed at 7 p.m., Cunningham said 26,616, or just 10.7 percent of the county’s voters turned out.
