More than 150 friends and supporters of the Ecker Center enjoyed a lavish selection of delicious specialties prepared by ten local restaurants at this year’s “Wishes for Wellness” Brunch, held May 18 at the Elgin Community College University Business Center. Guests enjoyed piano selections from Murna Hansemann and Dave Newton on guitar. This annual brunch was previously hosted by The Larkin Center, but now the Ecker Center has taken over two former Larkin Center programs. The first Saturday in December, Santa Lucia is celebrated at Evangelical Covenant Church of Elgin. It is a morning of good “Scandinavian Egg Coffee” with all the pastries, cheeses, lefse, herring, cardamom bread, pepperkaker and a variety of Swedish cookies that all the women of the church bring to share with the community. As a reporter, I have attended almost all of the Judson Founders’ Day celebrations. And, I must admit, I was impressed as Linda Cain was called to the podium to be honored for her many contributions, such as hosting the annual Etiquette Dinner, teaching the importance of manners and social etiquette. She takes the time to honor people on their birthdays. In fact, remembering the small things reveals Linda’s sincerity in pleasing others. The Naperville Hilton was the site of this year's American Heart Association 2010 GO RED for Women volunteer committee members' luncheon for Kane and DuPage counties, as they celebrated the successful event under the leadership of Chair Pat Szpekowski of PmS Advertising Inc. in Carpentersville.
