Biden not bragging: Instead of Vice President Joe Biden knocking Mitt Romney, why doesn’t he discuss the great successes of the current administration? Or does the current administration have nothing to brag about?
Keep crossing guards: On Sunday, April 15, there was (a Speak Out) in Viewpoint about Elgin doing away with most of the school crossing guards. That person was absolutely right. There are too many people these days who don’t want to stop at stop signs. The Elgin city fathers must not do much driving in the city, for you can see it going on every day of the week.
Scale down the comments: I’m calling about a real long Speak Out in Sunday’s paper about crossing guards. I thought Speak Out was supposed to be limited to 30 seconds or so. Whenever I call in, I try to limit my comment.
Editor’s note: You are correct. Speak Outs should short and to the point, not long, drawn-out commentaries. The one you are referring to just got away from us. Even the Speak Out editor needs reminding from time to time. Thank you.
Tax the rich: If presidential hopeful Mitt Romney and President Obama are only paying 14 percent and 20 percent respectively in taxes, how much are the mega-rich, like Donald Trump, paying when they don’t have to present their taxes to the public? Are they paying 10 percent or maybe less? Is all their money hidden in Swiss and Cayman bank accounts? The idea that the Republicans put forth that the rich are paying 30 percent in taxes is a fallacy.
