South Elgin cat rescuer seeks support at hearing

Calling all angels for support in being a voice for all of the abandoned and abused animals.

After 30 years of my rescuing these animals as “Guardian Angels Feline Rescue” in South Elgin and Kane County, our town’s code enforcement, Frank Altmaier, has suddenly determined that what I am doing is illegal and wrong. Since we have never had any ordinance in our town, he quickly had one passed on March 21, 2011, stating that residents could now only have four animals and that anyone with more prior to this ordinance could still keep them, except for me!

When I asked if they could cut me some slack as a result of my having to deal with serious health issues, Altmaier did and served me with a notice that they are now going to fine me and to appear in “their court” on Dec. 8 at 9 a.m. at the village of South Elgin Board Room, 10 N. Water St.

Hopefully, angels will fill this room that day and be a voice for so many animals that are dumped by irresponsible people who have contributed to this problem — yet they don’t go after any of them!

And sadly, our village board and administration are going along with this charade. Supporters are asked to attend on behalf of all of the rescued animals and in being a voice for them since they don’t want them in their town and are threatening their life and well-being.
