Too many negatives: Ask Gov. Quinn to veto Leucadia ‘clean coal’ plant
A bill (SB 3766) before Gov. Pat Quinn would allow a New York City conglomerate to build a “clean coal” plant in Chicago while potentially increasing natural gas costs for consumers outside the city.
SB 3766 would force Ameren and Nicor customers to cover the $3 billion construction of the Leucadia National plant, which would convert coal and other materials into natural gas, and then buy the high-priced gas for the next three decades. What about Peoples Gas — Chicago’s gas utility? It pulled out months ago, reasonably concerned about the cost to consumers.
The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) isn’t absolutely opposed to the Leucadia project, but it is simply unfair to slam suburban, Central and Southern Illinois with all the costs of this project. If the plant makes economic sense, as supporters claim, then Leucadia should have no problem moving the project forward by selling the remaining gas to utilities in other states or on the market — and not dumping all the burden on Illinois consumers.
Leucadia National also is known for wineries, beef-packing, and casino management, but its coal-to-gas plant is an entirely different gamble — and Illinois consumers look to be the losers. Please, go to www.CitizensUtilityBoard.org to send a message asking Gov. Quinn to protect your gas bills and veto SB 3766 (the “Leucadia bill”).

It is the left-leaning Democrats who are unable to tell the truth
The far-left, secular progressives who hate the truth and fear the facts are ranting about Mitt Romney’s Swiss bank account but fail to mention Nancy Pelosi, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and a host of high-profile Democrats also have Swiss bank accounts. Are they avoiding taxes also?
They whine about Mitt Romney only disclosing one year income tax yet give a free pass on President Obama refusing to release his college records, or any records that will cast a dark shadow on his phony persona. What does HE have to hide?
Those who spew the talking points of the Democratic Party should look at what they are saying and match it up with facts, even though they fear and hate facts. And not facts handed to them by the Democratic leadership.
The unending talking by the far left is an effort to not allow opposing argument to be heard, not allowing anyone to correct their lies and half-truths.
The far-left Democratic leaders love to add a ton of junk to bills that have items that both parties want and believe America wants. The best example is the affordable health law — Obamacare. I read it when it first was made available. Ninety-five percent of the bill is items to secure votes to help it pass but does the opposite of what Obama says it does. Obama cleverly hid the truth from the American public, his boss, in order to begin to take America down the path of socialism.

Romney short on too many details about his income taxes, policies
Mitt Romney refuses to release more than one year of federal income tax returns? What is he hiding?
Maybe off-shoring his money to Switzerland, Bermuda and Grand Caymans reduces his rate far below 15 percent? Maybe his “retroactive” retirement from Bain in 1999 was a lie since he received $100,000 per year, filed with the SEC as CEO, president and owner until 2002?
Maybe making millions closing down companies, cancelling pensions and outsourcing jobs is really unpopular with the middle-class workers who are unemployed?
Perhaps Romney should explain how he is going to create jobs by cutting teachers and police and firemen, reduce the deficit while advocating a $5 trillion tax cut for his wealthy friends, stop Wall Street from stealing our future by eliminating regulations, and “repeal and replace” Obamacare instead of dodging the issues.
We need specifics to evaluate his vision for the future — not more bobbing and weaving.
But instead of details, Romney trots out John Sununu to call president Obama “un-American.”
So Romney, who sends his money and our jobs overseas is a patriot, and the president is “un-American”?
Romney and his GOP allies must think we are stupid.
