Don’t blame the guns: While many of you are yelling for gun control, I want to point out two things. Think of the lady in Connecticut who took her not-so-sane kid to the rifle range and didn’t keep her guns locked up. Her son shot her and 20 kids. The Navy SEAL guy was killed by someone who has been in and out of mental hospitals for quite some time. He was obviously not stable, yet he was taken to a gun range. Think about it. Is it really the guns?
Pension dissension: This is in reference to the Carpentersville fire chief who is earning $130,000 a year from taxpayers. He’s going to retire at age 51 at around $100,000 a year. That means if he lives to be 81, he will collect for 30 years at $100,000 a year, which adds up to $3 million. This is just one guy. There are probably six guys in Carpentersville, 12 in Elgin, and 10 in South Elgin. I’d like to see a story in the newspaper called “The Millionaires Pension Club.” Let’s see how many police officers and firefighters who retire at age 50 will get $100,000 a year.
Hats off to Hultgren: It was truly heartwarming to learn from Emily McFarlan Miller’s Sunday (Feb. 10) article about U.S. Congressman Randy Hultgren’s support of President Obama’s Stem Cell Initiative. (Think about) science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Our country badly needs this kind of bipartisanship.
