Speak Out: Cruel way to cull deer

Cruel way to cull deer: I think Kane County officials who allow killing deer in the forest preserves with bows and arrows are out of their minds. It’s not a kind way to put a deer down. A bow and arrow is not a sure shot. If they want to cull the herd, bring in sharpshooters. These poor deer run away with their guts hanging out until they die. I hope you print this. It’s inhuman.
Bailing people out of sinking situations: This is a taxpayer doing his duty today. I’ve bailed out multiple banks and bailed out General Motors, which will not repay us, in case President Obama hasn’t told you. I have four adult children living in my house that I’m bailing out because they can’t afford food or rent. Not only that, but I’ve been out of work for 19 months. Obama is saying it will only take another two to three years? Hmmm, I can’t wait. I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Funding Obamacare: This is for the Speak Out caller who said President Obama is not taking money out of Social Security or Medicare. He most certainly is, and it wasn’t on FOX News. It was stated on Channels 7, 5 and all the major news channels. Congress allowed it. This is why Social Security and Medicare are going under unless something is done. Obama took $500 million out of one of them for Obamacare. It wasn’t for cleaning up a mess. Think about the young people and middle-aged people when Social Security is no longer there. Caller, I suggest you check your facts.
Editor’s note: No money is coming from the Social Security Trust Fund for any other program, despite what you might have read on the Internet. The cuts being referred to target Medicare alone — but are not to any benefits. One of the major news channels you cited — CBS — actually said this instead: “According to the Congressional Budget Office, it’s not the patients who would lose money. It’s the providers. The president’s changes mean the annual increases insurance companies receive will be trimmed; hospital reimbursement rates would be reduced; and payments to home health care workers will also be cut back. ... The Congressional Budget Office concluded the cuts — which do not come out of the Medicare trust fund — actually make Medicare more efficient and extend the life of the program.”
Remember to say thank you: What is wrong with young people today? Hardly any of them write thank-you notes for shower and wedding presents. Am I alone in telling my children and grandchildren that they must do it? If the giver can take the time to shop for a gift and wrap it, I think not sending a thank-you card is rude and shows a definite lack of manners.
Stick with Mitt: Gov. Romney has stated he wants to get rid of Obamacare, but he will keep pre-existing conditions and allow older children to be on their parents’ insurance. For people who would vote against him for these two circumstances, please know he is thinking of you.
Work for what you get: It’s time to put people who are collecting unemployment, food stamps and Medicaid back to work. There are those who deserve it, especially those who are handicapped or seniors. The rest should be doing something for the money and services they receive. If there’s a will, there’s a way. This can be a workable situation. It worked after the Depression. People worked for the government for government pay. Government has made it too easy for people to become plain lazy.
