Advice to voters: President Obama is for the people. Gov. Romney and Rep. Ryan are for the wealthy people. End of story. Vote accordingly.

Cheers for charter schools: School District U46 Superintendent (Jose) Torres will never be for charter schools. With charter schools, union rules aren’t adhered to as strongly. Teacher unions don’t want any competition from charter schools because if charter schools do show success, that will rock their boat. They want all teachers to be paid the same whether they are good or bad. I imagine the union would throw Mr. Torres out if he ever voiced acceptance of charter schools. Elgin has had success with charter schools in the past. In 1973, they turned the old Elgin high school into a charter school for advanced children. They called it model school. I went to it for a while. We had a great education and great teachers, but then they threw it in the trash can because union teachers don’t want charter schools. Imagine if kids started to get better education in charter schools. What would we do? Turn down teacher unions? That will never happen. They would rather see our kids grow up as dunces instead of losing their monetary powers.

Editor’s note: The first state law providing for the establishment and operation of charter schools in Illinois was not signed until 1996.

Leery about low-income housing: This is about the low-income housing being built in East Dundee by the Dundee Terrace subdivision. East Dundee Terrace home values just went down over there. Why don’t they just rename it Fox View East? South Elgin is getting the same thing? This is getting scary.

Romney needs to release tax forms: When anybody runs for public office, they know that their public life is going to be open for questions. Why won’t Governor Romney release his tax forms? If you have nothing to hide, why don’t you release them other than the fact that you do have something to hide? I find that very troubling for someone who is running for the office of the president of the United States. Unless he solves this issue, I will not vote for him.

Done with East Dundee: East Dundee is building low-income, affordable housing. You might as well take that town and put a fork in it. Who would want to live there?

Check your facts: This is for the caller who complained about the new senior housing being built at Illinois 25 in East Dundee. Perhaps if the unions weren’t gouging this state, they would have their jobs. When this caller said “I heard” certain things, that amounts to cheap gossip. Check out your facts before you smear our lovely little community. This development won’t be like Fox View Apartments unless we have a bunch of gun-toting, drug-dealing senior citizens in our area. These know-it-alls should call the village hall or attend a village board meeting and ask legitimate questions.

Bullets hit bystanders: Isn’t it a little questionable that the cops who shot the man by the Empire State Building managed to wound nine bystanders as they killed him? They were only standing 10 feet away from the guy. Somehow they managed to blow off enough bullets to wound other people. Thank God they didn’t kill them. It’s amazing.

Rebroadcast race: An apology is needed. Channel 7 needs to apologize to NASCAR fans for having so many problems. We missed so much of the race on Saturday night (Aug. 25) that we can’t tell what’s going on. Please make sure they take care of this immediately. They should rebroadcast the race and let NASCAR fans know when they are going to do it. They owe us that much.
