You get back what you give out: I’d like to make a comment on the Grand Victoria Riverboat complaining that they don’t make a lot of money. Last month, my wife and I got $60 in gambling and $40 in food at the Rivers Casino (in Des Plaines). When we go to the Grand Victoria (in Elgin), we don’t get anything. Who would want to go there? You should give something to get people to come in. The Grand Victoria better smarten up and start giving something to people, or they will probably go bye-bye.
Fix up the downtown: It appears Elgin city officials are concerned about homeowners not taking care of their property. Why aren’t they as equally concerned about the property owners in the downtown area? There are buildings on South Grove Avenue and South Spring Street that are in great need of maintenance. Old wood needs painting or replacement. Bricks need to be cleaned. Horrible stuff in the windows needs to be removed. This alone would make the downtown area more attractive to businesses that might go into these buildings. Has the city tried to attract small chain stores? We need stores to shop at.
Disgusted about double dipping: Well, people of Elgin, is anyone else also fuming that the city is still discharging a refuse collection fee while we still have to pay for stickers on our garbage when something doesn’t fit into our containers? I think this is totally ridiculous. They’re double dipping as usual.
