Speak Out: Judge should’ve thrown book at dog abuser

Updated: July 11, 2012 10:17AM

Dog abuser: This is in regards to the repeat dog abuser who just got a year in jail for beating his dog, breaking its teeth, and hurting its eye and nose. Before that, he killed his other dog by dragging it with a chain and then running over it with a car. The judge should have thrown the book at him.

Road needs repair: This is in regards to Speak Out’s reply about calling in. A lot of times, I call in not for myself and not because I don’t want to call a guy personally, but because I’d like to see everybody get an answer. When I called in about Route 20 and its horrible condition from Randall Road to Villa Street, nobody investigated and nobody called. I would think the newspaper would be interested in finding out who is responsible and who is going to fix it. That road isn’t going to last more than five years. It will be worse than it is now. Nobody seems to care about anything. They spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, and it’s gone to waste. Nobody’s accountable.

Going after gangs: This is regarding Kane County’s plans to go after the Latin Kings and other gangs through lawsuits. I just think they should stop. You need good lawyers to do such things, and Kane County doesn’t have them. The Hispanics have won every discrimination lawsuit they’ve put forth.

Don’t lay off firemen: My comment is regarding West Dundee losing the Best Buy store and losing $200,000 a year in sales tax. They’re talking about laying people off, such as firemen. A very simple solution is for the fire chief, the police chief, the village manager and other department heads to take a pay cut so everyone can keep their jobs. It’s elementary. That or the fire chief should take the place of the men they are laying off. Go on ambulance calls or go to the hospital. Do the same for the police chief. Instead of sitting in the office, go out and take the place of the patrolmen you want to lay off. It’s a simple thing. Cut their pay, and keep the other people. It would save a lot of money, and you’d have the manpower you need.

Editor’s note: The village has not laid off full-time staff.

Placards handicap drivers: Please remove your handicap placards before driving. It says that on the placard. It impairs your vision. Secondly, do we need to advertise that we’re handicapped? I think not. Just store the placard in your sun visor in the car.

Make school boards accountable: Our governor states that local school boards will be more accountable now for all these huge raises and pension plans they give to administrators and teachers. Now the state is telling local boards: You pay for it. I agree with this. I would like to know who our Kane County school board members are. I’d like to know some of these people who give out exorbitant salaries and Connie Neale-like lifetime benefit plans they always figured the state would pay for. Now local people have to pay this. I still don’t think they care.

Editor’s note: Your local school board members have regular meetings open to the public; names are available by calling the district offices.

Fed up with Fido: This is about a dog that barks constantly. You can’t sit in your backyard or in your house. It barks all day long and all night long. People who have the dog don’t care about their neighbors. The police have been called out so many times, but all they do is give them a slap on the wrist. I think they should get a fine. The dog is very annoying. I live in East Dundee in the Terrace area. Nobody does anything about the barking dog. It’s constant.
