No texting while driving: I’d like to put something in the paper about the safety check for the holiday. I’d like to remind the state, city and county that everyone should use their turn signals and make sure they are not talking on their cellphones or texting. So many people get away with it.
Funds for Fox Trot: I am calling regarding the Elgin Valley Fox Trot. I am wondering if the police department spent more this year in overtime than they spent last year. If so, how is the city saving money?
Move it back to Memorial Day: I’d like to speak out about the Elgin Valley Fox Trot not being held on Memorial Day. It’s now being held on a Saturday. It has been very inconvenient to go the Centre to attend classes. I would appreciate it if they move the Fox Trot back to Memorial Day.
Fox Trot talk: I’m wondering why they changed the Elgin Valley Fox Trot date. It’s normally held on Memorial Day when there is plenty of parking. I don’t know why they switched it. It’s more convenient for the Fox Trotters to have the whole parking lot. It’s better for everyone all around since they close the Centre on Monday.
Good deed: I wanted to call and say there are still some very honest people. I drove from my house one whole mile but was unaware that my purse had been on my trunk and fell off. A nice gentleman chased me down, got me to pull over, and returned my purse to me. This is so out of the way and so kind. For me, it was such a blessing. I just wanted to say to the young man who stopped by Shales Parkway around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday: Thank you for being such a caring, honest person.
Leaf pickup fees for those without trees: I agree with “Fed up with fees.” I also have no trees in my yard, and four of my neighbors have no trees in their yards. Why should we pay for leaf pickup? I agree that everyone in the Elgin City Council should be voted out. Their fees are getting ridiculous around this town.
Teacher talks: As these secretive contract talks with the School District U46 teachers union continue, I would like to know who is representing the taxpayers of Kane County. I hope it’s not the city manager of Elgin. He has no experience doing contracts. Who is representing the city of Elgin?
Editor’s note: The city of Elgin is not a party to contract talks involving employees in School District U46, or any other school district. U46 is a separate taxing body; its school board, and the people it designates, are the ones who represent the public in negotiations with teachers. By the way, the board is scheduled to vote Monday night on the new teachers contract, which the educators’ union approved last week.
Banks, can you spare a loan: Here’s a Catch-22. In order for people to apply for home loan modifications, qualifications at the bank are that you either lost your job or have a lack of income. When you call the bank and ask for the Home Affordable Modification Program, you do all the paperwork and then they turn around and deny you because you don’t have a job and you don’t make enough money. It doesn’t make sense. People are losing their houses, and the banks are playing games. This has got to stop, or everyone will end up being homeless. The banks are making too much money. We should send a message to the banks. We should pull our money out and start using credit unions. We need to start hurting them liked they are hurting us. I hope you publish this because I’m one of the people going through it every day for the last three years. I cannot seem to get my home modification loan.
