City should follow its own rules: To the person who wants the city of Elgin to tear down the building at Kimball and North Grove streets, that building and lot are owned by the city. You need to contact the city council. Apparently, the city doesn’t enforce codes against itself. You’re correct. The building is disgraceful, and it breaks city codes.
Frank about Dodd-Frank: I’m confused. For the last year, I’ve been hearing the Republicans complaining about the Dodd-Frank Act and how it will bring down the economy. Now I hear, after JP Morgan drops $2 billion in six weeks, that the Dodd-Frank bill doesn’t go into effect until July. Banks probably won’t be forced to follow the regulations for two years. I wish the bankers would quiet down their dogs, the Republicans. I think they’re getting them too excited protesting a bill that isn’t even implemented. If JP Morgan is our most trusted investor/lender and they dropped $2 billion in six weeks, we are in big trouble. These bankers don’t know what they’re doing.
Not sold on ruling: I disagree with (the judge) and her sentencing of the Elgin man who accidentally shot the young man trying to rob his vehicles. The judge said that the man will probably never commit this crime again, and yet she still gives him 18 months in jail. What will he learn from that? These Republican judges always have to give time. People like Rush Limbaugh scream for the hard form of crime prevention, but it comes to themselves, they scream to be set free. This was a case of another Republican judge giving time when it wasn’t necessary.
Editor’s note: The judge you cited was not the one who sentenced Donald Rattanavong; it was Cook County Judge Kay Hanlon. She noted that while his lack of criminal history might have pointed to probation, “it cannot be ignored that a young man lost his life.”
Pay heed to greed: If the working man and woman’s wages stay at the same level and taxes keep going up with the cost of living, they will owe more than they are taking in. How is that going to help this country’s economy? It looks like terrorism is not the country’s biggest enemy. Greed is the enemy.
