Comment on property taxes: I’m reading Linda McDaniel-Hale’s column about her taxes going down 12.4 percent. Who does she know? I don’t know anyone whose taxes went down that far. Our taxes went up, and other people’s taxes went up slightly although their assessed value went down. Somehow McDaniel-Hale’s taxes went down. Considering the rate, it would mean her assessed valuation would have gone down 30 percent. Did anyone else’s do that?

Editor’s note: We have a staffer who lives in the Dundees, and his property tax bill decreased by 6.6 percent because his property assessment went down (even without the benefit of a assessment challenge). That occurred despite his total tax rate increasing by almost 7 percent.
