Fired up about alarm system: I would like a reporter to ask Elgin Councilman Richard Dunne why he feels it is in Elgin’s best interest to force businesses to use the city’s fire alarm monitoring system instead of the private company that I use now. I would also like to know if it is Dunne who is pushing the talks about forcing new homes to have fire sprinklers. If it is Dunne, I have a message: Stay out of our businesses, and stay out of our homes. First you raise our taxes. Now you want to tell us how to run our businesses and our homes.
Editor’s note: Your comment raises a point we’d like to address, and not about the fire alarm proposal. You want a reporter to ask the councilman a question that you could easily ask yourself. Speak Out sometimes receives calls with questions that callers ought to be able to pose with a phone call that would yield an answer more quickly and directly. Speak Out is highly popular for the comments it receives on all manner of topics. Sometimes the questions posed are rhetorical, and every once in a while a question is something a caller can’t get an answer to on his or her own. But we’re pretty sure Dunne is reachable and would be happy to chat with you directly about your concerns. Give it a try.
