Kudos to Sandy Kaptain: I would like to applaud the first lady of Elgin and mayor’s wife, Sandy Kaptain, for her wonderful letter to the editor about global warming and the arts and crafts program she put on in downtown Elgin last year. I just believe she’s a wonderful first lady for Elgin who is always thinking to better the city. I’m grateful for her.
Waiting for $200 senior rebate: I have a question. I see in Speak Out that they are donating money in Elgin to this one and that one. Whatever happened to the $200 that the senior citizens were supposed to get? It’s supposed to be our last year. We want to know when we’re getting our $200. I thought it was supposed to be by May 1.
Editor’s note: According to Elgin’s Chief Financial Officer, Colleen Lavery, the city is aiming to send both the Kane and Cook County senior rebate checks out by May 31.
Police state tactics: As I watch the police state tactics employed in the name of security during the NATO Summit, I’m reminded that Chicago was actually competing to host the Olympic Games. Imagine the inconvenience and expense if that would have happened. All of this feeds the ego of President Obama’s lackey, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
Kudos to Elgin Fire Department: I want to give a nice shout-out to the Elgin Fire Department. Firemen rarely get the recognition they deserve. I recently had a natural gas-fueled fire outside of my house. They managed for three hours to keep my house nice and wet and keep it from turning into a house fire. I want to give a big thank-you to the fire department and also to the Elgin Police Department for keeping onlookers away.
Riverboat revenue: How many citizens remember why Elgin was selected to get one of the 10 riverboats? I remember, and I don’t think the proceeds from it were to be used the way the Elgin City Council is using them.
