Snow plow season: Along with the Fox Valley’s first full blanket of snow came this winter‘s first “snow plow versus” accidents. A guardrail at Randall Road and Acorn Lane in Lake in the Hills was one of this winter’s first casualties. A snow plow, plowed into the rail about 10 a.m. Saturday, a police report said.
Shortcut aborted: Boo! Now that West Highland Avenue has been repaved and restriped in Elgin, new signs make it illegal to turn left onto Crighton Avenue from westbound Highland. That makes it impossible to execute one of the most convenient shortcuts for drivers who enter Elgin from the north along Route 31 and are bound for the city’s southwest side. Such a driver can cut off blocks of travel by turning west along Wing Street, then south along McClure Avenue, jogging over onto Crighton at Highland, then jogging over to Wilcox Avenue at Chicago Street and taking Wilcox to either Walnut Avenue or South Street.
At least the shortcut still works while traveling the opposite direction.
