Battery in the former home: Police said Allen Lane, 23, who formerly lived in an apartment building along East Chicago Street, was charged with battery Monday night after he returned to that building and a 54-year-old woman who still lives there tried to get him to leave. Lane allegedly pushed the woman on the chest with his hands, police reported.
Burglar takes car, too: Police believe that a burglar got into a home in the 1100 block of Blackhawk Drive Thursday morning through an open garage door and an unlocked service door between the garage and the home. The intruder stole four pieces of fine jewelry, two laptop computers and a 48-inch TV set, then also took car keys off the kitchen table and stole a gray 2000 Nissan Maxima car parked in the garage.
Apartment burglarized: A burglar broke a window in an apartment in the 1600 block of Mulberry Court, then stole two TV sets and jars containing $500 from inside, the resident told police. The break-in occurred between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Friday morning.
Pipes gone: A man who has agreed to buy a long-vacant foreclosed home in the 100 block of College Street told police that when he conducted a final walk-through of the house on Saturday, he discovered someone had broken in and cut much of the copper piping out of the basement. The man said the house has been empty for about 18 months but that most of the pipes had been put in recently.
