Robbed and pistol-whipped: Police reported Thursday that a man who lives in the 1600 block of Mulberry Lane was robbed and pistol-whipped outside his apartment at 3:30 a.m. on July 19. According to reports, the man told officers he had gone outside to move his trash cans and go to work. The man said two men approached him. One pointed a silver semiautomatic handgun at him. The other tried to punch him in the stomach, but he dodged that blow and fell down. The victim said the robbers then searched through his pockets, stealing his cellphone, keys, debit card and a box cutter. He said the gunman then hit him twice in the head with the gun before they left.
Phone scam: A family who lives in the 1200 block of Sebring Circle told police they apparently were scammed out of $1,000 by a phone caller on Tuesday. They said the caller reported that the victims’ cousin, whom he mentioned by name, had been involved in an accident in Mexico and needed money to get out of jail. The father of the family wired $1,000 via Western Union to the person who called but later found out the cousin was fine.
