Bike rider accused of armed robbery

Charges in robbery: Everardo Alvarez, 17, of the 100 block of Hindsdell Place, Elgin, was charged with Class X felony counts of armed robbery and armed violence, as well as aggravated robbery, possession of a firearm by a street gang member, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and not having a firearm owners identification card. Police said Alvarez is accused of entering a store on Dundee Avenue at about 7 p.m. June 29 where, while brandishing a gun and with his face covered with a shirt, he robbed a store employee. Police said he left the store with about $700 and rode away on a bicycle. Bail was set at $100,000, and he was given a July 10 court date.
Burglary reported: A resident on Harding Street told police he returned home at 9:30 a.m. Friday to find his air conditioning window unit fallen in, the home ransacked, and several thousand dollars worth of jewelry and cash missing. Police said they did not find dirt and dust around the unit disturbed, however, and other items of value were still in the home.
Car burglary at casino: Dameion L. Dunn, 25, of the 0-100 block of South Crystal Street, Elgin, was charged with felony counts of burglary and driving on a suspended or revoked license for the 10th to 14th offense. According to police, Dunn is suspected of entering a car parked in the Grand Victoria Casino parking lot and removing a cellphone and GPS unit on Saturday.
Threat to child: Jason H. Franco, 18, of the 800 block of South Liberty Street, Elgin, was charged with a misdemeanor count of aggravated assault following an incident Sunday. According to police, he threatened to kill a 2-year-old boy in front of the boy and his mother in front of a residence in the 400 block of Dwight Street. Bail was set at $3,000, and he was given a July 27 court date.
Beaten outside tavern: A 34-year-old man told police he “lost” a fight with another man in the parking lot of Bubba McDuffy’s tavern at 1175 Bluff City Blvd. at about 12:25 a.m. Sunday. Police said that when they arrived, the man was bleeding profusely from cuts on his face and possibly had a broken nose.
Burglary: The man who lives in an apartment in the 1600 block of Mulberry Court told police that when he returned home Saturday night, its sliding rear door was slightly ajar and somebody had stolen $800 cash, plus two gold necklaces and a gold ring.
