Car, motorcycle collide in Hampshire

Two crashes on Route 20: Five people sustained non-life-threatening injuries in two unrelated traffic crashes along Route 20 Thursday, In the first accident, two people were injured when a car and a motorcycle collided on Route 20 near the entrance ramp for I-90 at about 9 a.m., Deputy Hampshire Fire Chief Trevor Herrmann said. He said one man was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin and a second person was treated at the scene. Then, at about 4 p.m., three people were hurt as two vehicles collided in front of 19N430 Route 20. Herrmann said two people were transported to hospitals and a third was treated at the scene.
Elgin
Suspect left calling card: A second young man has been charged with a pair of car burglaries in which one burglar apparently dropped a wallet containing his own identification while running from the scene. Police said the owner of two vehicles parked in the 600 block of Sacramento Court saw a man inside one of them at 2:20 a.m. on June 20, shouted at the intruder and saw him run away. A wallet and $5 worth of change had been stolen. But officers found another wallet on the ground that belonged to Michael A. Roundtree, 20, of the 1100 block of Ash Road, Hoffman Estates, and on June 28 Roundtree was charged with two counts of burglary. After further investigation, police said, on Tuesday they also lodged a charge of burglary against a man they believe was accompanying Roundtree, 17-year-old Oscar Vasquez of Longwood Place in Elgin. According to court documents, Roundtree admitted to police that he had been acting as a lookout while three other youths burglarized cars parked in the neighborhood. The other two remain at large.
Shooting the floor: Christian S. Bradley, 17, of Elgin was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm after police investigated a fight with another man that occurred in a home in the 800 block of Martin Drive on Sunday. Witnesses said Bradley and the other man struck at each other with metal pipes while arguing about a girl and a debt, causing some damage to the house. Bradley then allegedly fired a pistol into the floor of one bedroom in the home, and according to one witness, also fired the pistol toward the ceiling while standing in the home’s garage. Police found a bullet hole in the bedroom floor but not in the garage ceiling.
Elgin
Choking charge: Cesar G. Mara, 17, of the 600 block of St. Charles Street, Elgin, was charged with felony counts of aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery causing bodily harm with a previous domestic battery conviction, and misdemeanor counts of domestic battery. According to police, Mara is accused of attempting to strangle a woman, as well as punching and slapping her during an incident June 30. Bail was set at $300,000, and he was given a July 19 court date.
McHenry County
DUI on ATV: A 47-year-old Harvard man faces numerous charges after McHenry County sheriff’s deputies said they stopped the man driving an all-terrain vehicle on Lawrence Road Tuesday evening, with his blood alcohol content over the legal limit and marijuana in his possession, while a 4-year-old relative rode on the ATV’s gas tank, wearing no helmet, according to reports. Sheriff Keith Nygren said Steven K. Skodachek was charged with endangering the life of a child, driving under the influence, possession of cannabis, driving an off-road vehicle on a public road and driving on a revoked license. Nygren said the 4-year-old was turned over to his maternal grandmother and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was notified of the incident. Skodachek was released on $1,500 bond pending an Aug. 18 court date.
