ST. CHARLES — A 67-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting his nephew’s girlfriend, St. Charles police said Friday.
Gary Kluber was arrested on Thursday afternoon and charged with felonies criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse, police said. Kluber was temporarily staying with his nephew in the 100 block of 10th Avenue in St. Charles, police said.
Kluber is charged with attacking his nephew’s girlfriend, a 35-year-old Aurora woman.
According to police, the alleged victim came into the St. Charles Police Department on June 3 to report that she had been sexually assaulted the day before at her boyfriend’s house.
Police said the woman was visiting her longtime boyfriend at his home. She was in the basement with Kluber when he began making unwelcome sexual advances toward the victim, who asked him to stop numerous times. Police said Kluber ignored her requests and forced himself on her.
Kluber was being held in the Kane County Jail on $250,000 bail, meaning he would have to post $25,000 to be released. He is scheduled to be in court Wednesday.
St. Charles police said Kluber was convicted of criminal sexual abuse in 1987 and aggravated criminal sexual abuse in 1998. He was required to register as a sex offender, but the registration requirement had expired before the latest incident, police said. In 2010, he was charged with being a child sex offender in a school zone, police said.
