Police: Elginite had 45 lbs. of pot shipped to her home

ELGIN — An Elgin woman is accused of having marijuana shipped to her through a national express delivery service.
Police were made aware of the impending shipment and arrested the woman when she took delivery of the package at 5 p.m. Monday, officials said.
Diana A. Leal, 50, of the 300 block of Orange Street, was charged with a Class X felony count of manufacture or delivery of cannabis, as well as a felony count of possession of cannabis, having been accused of possessing more than 5,000 grams (11 pounds) of the drug.
The actual product weighed in at 45 pounds, has a wholesale value of about $48,000, and has a street value of $102,000, police said.
According to police, officers “in cooperation with a large shipping company” intercepted a package that was to be delivered to an address in the 300 block of Orange Street.
An undercover officer posed as the delivery person and delivered the package — which was ultimately accepted by Diana Leal, police said. After Leal took the package, a search warrant was executed at her residence, and she was taken into custody, police said.
Bail was set at $1 million, and Leal was given a June 21 court date. If convicted, Leal faces between six and 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
