Saved from pond: A man riding a bicycle fell through the ice of a pond Monday but was rescued by Streamwood police and firefighters, authorities said. Streamwood Police Cmdr. Ed Valente said the 43-year-old man was riding a bicycle in Glenbrook Park at 316 Garden Circle when he fell through the ice of a retention pond at 3:45 p.m. Children playing nearby noticed the accident and called police, who arrived “in a matter of minutes,” Valente said. The man was conscious and speaking to paramedics when he was taken in good condition to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.

Attempted burglary: A resident in the 500 block of Stella Court reported finding a window broken into in his home, but the burglar’s entrance apparently had been blocked by an entertainment center set in front of the window. According to police, the homeowner found the broken window at about 8 p.m. Monday but believed the damage occurred between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. that day. The window appeared to have been shot with a BB gun before the window screen was slit, but the entertainment center could not be moved, police said.
