Elgin residents report theft of cameras, bike tire, tools

n Items missing from home: A resident on the 700 block of North Spring Street reported to police Friday that an iPass transponder, handicapped parking placard and two digital cameras were missing from his home. The man suspected one of his two roommates may have taken the items, but did not know when the theft may have occurred.
n Bike tire theft: Keith A. Ratcliff, 48, homeless, of Elgin, was charged with misdemeanor theft. He is accused of taking a tire off of a bike locked up at the National Street Metra Station at about 3 p.m. Friday. According to police, a witness saw Ratcliff remove one of the bike’s tires, put the tire on his own bicycle and pedal away. Police caught up with Ratcliff at a closed auto repair service on National Street. He was held pending bond call.
Tools missing: An employee at Parker and Sons, 2565 Northwest Parkway, reported to police that several tools were taken from the back seat of his vehicle while in the parking lot there Thursday afternoon. A door on the SUV was found open, and a reciprocating saw, nailers, circular saw, screw gun and hammer drill were reported gone.
