ST. CHARLES — Three Aurora siblings are denying they neglected their ailing mother last year.
Alan, Connie and Kevin Roberson appeared in Kane County Court Wednesday, where they pleaded not guilty to criminal neglect of an elderly person charges stemming from their arrests in October. A grand jury indicted the three in December.
The three lived with their mother, Martha Roberson, 77, in her home in the 1100 block of North Randall Road in Aurora.
Prosecutors allege they failed to care for the elderly woman for several months after she was released from a hospital stay. Martha Roberson was found with gangrene on one leg that was later partially amputated, severe open wounds and dehydration — among other problems — after paramedics were called to the home.
According to court documents and prosecutors, Martha Roberson was left on a loveseat in the home for several weeks without being bathed. Her children also did not take her to follow-up doctor visits or get their mother’s prescription medication.
The trio opted against putting Martha Roberson in a nursing home because she paid the rent on the home they all shared, prosecutors said.
The Roberson siblings all remain in custody in the Kane County jail on $50,000 bail. They are each scheduled for hearings in March.
