Elgin man faces drug possession charge

Cocaine possession: James Price, 30, of the 400 block of South Belmont Avenue, Elgin, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a felony, following his arrest Tuesday in Elgin. According to police, he was found with less than 15 grams of cocaine. Bail was set at $30,000, and he was given a Feb. 29 court date.

Fight at Larkin: Adrian Soto, 17, of the 300 block of North Street, Elgin, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He is accused of hitting another student in the head with a padlock during a fight in the halls of Larkin High School on Tuesday afternoon. Bail was set at $40,000, and he was given a Feb. 29 court date. Police said no one was seriously injured.

Car damaged: The owner of a 2000 Ford Mustang told police someone threw a piece of concrete through its back window, smashing the window and damaging the center console inside, and punctured two tires. The attack occurred between 5 p.m. Monday and noon Tuesday in a lot in the 1000 block of Plymouth Lane.

Parking fight: A 25-year-old woman told police a man hit her in the head as she argued with an 81-year-old neighbor woman outside their apartment building in the 1000 block of Maple Lane. The argument took place at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday and involved a dispute about where the younger woman parks her car, she said. Police were trying to determine if the man was the older woman’s middle-aged son.

Casino arrest: Daniel B. Woodward, of the 100 block of Oak Street, Hampshire, was charged with trespassing after he reportedly tried to get a cash advance at the Grand Victoria Casino Tuesday. Police said Woodward was on the state casino self-banned list and had been warned not to come back to the Grand Victoria in 2003.

Three hurt on tollway: The Hampshire Fire Department took two people to hospitals and treated a third at the scene after a traffic crash at Route 20 and I-90 at about 9:04 a.m. Wednesday. Fire Capt. Trevor Herrmann said all the injuries seemed to be non-life-threatening.
