Vandalism spree: Three parked vehicles were vandalized on Elgin’s northeast side Monday night or early Tuesday. Owners told police someone broke out the rear window of a Ford Expedition in the 100 block of Mulford Drive, broke a tail light on a Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the 1100 block of Leawood Drive, and knocked a 3-inch-diameter dent in the door of a Nissan Maxima in the 100 block of Longford Drive.
Fight in store: Tommy L. Phillips, 46, of Mark Avenue in Elgin, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery after he struck a woman inside the Walmart at 1100 S. Randall Road Tuesday evening, police said. According to reports, Phillips and his wife, whose name was not released, began fighting with a 42-year-old woman they knew. Witnesses said Phillips punched the other woman in the face several times, leaving her with a swollen jaw and bruised temples. Phillips also was wanted on an arrest warrant from February 2011. Police told the women to contact the state’s attorney’s office if they want to press charges against each other.
Trailer burglarized: The owner of a business in the 1000 block of Bluff City Boulevard told police Tuesday that someone broke into a trailer parked behind his building and stole a number of items, which he had not yet listed. Investigators said the burglar tried to drill out the lock on the trailer’s back door but, failing that, broke the hasp off a side door.
