Burglary on St. John: Residents of a home in the 600 block of St. John Street told police they returned home at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday to find a door standing open and numerous items stolen. Reported missing were a 37-inch plasma TV, a PlayStation 2 game system with 10 video games, a Dell laptop computer and various jewelry.
Another converter: For the second time in less than a week, someone cut a catalytic converter off a car parked outside the city of Elgin Public Works Department garage at 1900 Holmes Road. A public works employee told police his car had been parked there between 5:30 and 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. He said he noticed the theft when he turned the engine on and it sounded drastically different.
Forged checks: A 63-year-old resident of Inverness Drive told police someone forged four checks on her bank account between Dec. 23 and Jan. 31. She said the offender apparently had printed out blank checks with her name and account number on them. She said one check, for $1,810, was cashed but that the others — for unreported amounts of money — had been turned back by the bank.
Not her license: Yvonna Corona-Elizondo, 19, of Jackson Street in Aurora, was charged with unlawful use of a driver’s license Wednesday night after she tried to use her older sister’s license to get into the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin, police said. She was released on her own recognizance pending a Feb. 27 court date.
