ELGIN — Drivers having to negotiate the lane closings and repaving along Route 20 will face yet one more aggravation beginning Monday, when the exit ramp from eastbound Route 20 to Larkin Avenue is closed for about five weeks.
Illinois Department of Transportation spokesman Guy Tridgell said motorists will be detoured onto Randall Road northbound, then east along Foothill Road and south on Airlite Street to Larkin Avenue.
Tridgell said the ramp has to be closed while contractors fix the deck surface and underside of the bridge that carries the ramp over westbound Route 20.
“This is part of the ongoing U.S. 20 patching and resurfacing project from east of Weld Road to west of Shales Parkway in Elgin,” Tridgell said. “The ramp will remain closed until the U.S. 20 repairs are completed in mid-October.
“Motorists should anticipate delays, allow extra time for trips through these areas and seek alternate routes when possible.”
Tridgell said updates about the traffic impact from road construction projects can be found at www.travelmidwest.com. Details about construction projects in IDOT’s District 1, which includes the Chicago area, can be found at www.dot.state.il.us.
