WEST DUNDEE — The Dundee post office is for sale, but it’s not closing.
The post office building at 611 S. Eighth St., West Dundee, now is for sale, the United States Postal Service announced Wednesday.
First revealed last September, the action in West Dundee is just one of many offices nationwide the postal service recently has put up for sale. The postal service then would lease a smaller space in the same building from its buyer or in a building nearby for its retail lobby operations and relocate carriers to a neighboring post office with excess workroom floor capacity, according to a written statement from the postal service.
“From a customer’s perspective, there will be no change,” Postal Service Northern Illinois District Manager Bob Hart said.
“If we sell the building, customers will continue to purchase stamps, mail and ship packages or rent post office boxes in the same building or a location close to the current post office.”
If and when the building in West Dundee is sold, the mail sorters and carriers will be shifted to the Carpentersville post office at 100 S. Kennedy Drive (Route 25) at the north end of the Meadowdale Shopping Center property.
