ELGIN — A woman was charged with making a false police report after she told police she had been raped on the first block of Garden Crescent Court — the same block on which the murder of Lisa Koziol-Ellis occurred March 2.
Katrina Sedlock, 18, of the first block of Garden Crescent Court, was charged with a Class 4 felony of disorderly conduct/filing a false report after the incident.
According to police, officers were called to the Tyler Creek Plaza a shopping center near McLean Boulevard and Big Timber Road on a report of a woman on the ground there crying at about 7 p.m. Wednesday. Sedlock told officers she had gone into an ice cream shop there and left a dog she had been caring for outside. When she came back out to the car, the dog was gone, she said. Police helped search for the dog, but were unable to find it.
Then, at 9:23 p.m., Sedlock came to the Elgin Police Department and said she had been sexually assaulted. The owner of the missing dog had driven her to the police department, officials said, after she told the owner she’d been walking the dog when attacked by a man, dragged to a secluded area, and raped.
She told the dog’s owner that is why the dog was missing. She was taken to Sherman Hospital and a sexual assault kit was done, according to police.
But another friend confirmed with police that she had been with Sedlock since she left school that day and was there when the dog went missing. She had not said anything about being assaulted, the friend said.
Sedlock eventually told police she made up the attack story to cover up the fact she had lost the dog, police said.
Bail was set at $5,000, and she was given an April 5 court date.
According to police, officers took the report very seriously because of its proximity to the Koziol-Ellis murder.
Koziol-Ellis, 33, was found stabbed to death in her home at 1 Garden Crescent Court at 2:30 a.m. March 2, when her husband returned home from work. The couple had moved to Elgin just a few days before.
