HUNTLEY — A 47-year-old man died in a fire inside his apartment Sunday, authorities said.
The McHenry County Coroner’s office identified the victim as Allen R. Jacobs of 11702 Woodcreek Drive.
According to the Huntley Fire Protection District, firefighters were called to the six unit Woodcreek Apartments building at 6:12 a.m. Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from a first-floor apartment when they arrived and the fire also had spread to two other apartments of the building.
A second alarm was sounded and firefighters and resources from 15 other departments responded.
Jacobs’ body was found inside his apartment, according to reports. The fire displaced about a dozen other occupants of the building.
No other occupants were hurt although a Huntley firefighter sustained a minor injury. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment and released a short time later.
The fire was being investigated by the Huntley fire district, Huntley Police Department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The cause of the fire was under investigation, although the preliminary indication is that the fire did not appear suspicious and may have been started by accident, officials said.
