Elgin: Weed Man franchise
At the age of 26, business co-owner Shane Griffith chose to invest in a Weed Man franchise because of his educational background and close ties with successful Weed Man owners, Terry Kurth, son, Andy Kurth and partner Mark Whitish.
Terry Kurth, director of development for U.S. operations for Weed Man, has been a mentor and teacher of Griffith from the beginning.
After Griffith received his master’s degree in soil science from the University of Wisconsin, an opportunity arose for him to open a Weed Man franchise in Elgin with the help of the Kurth and Whitish.
After a year of extensive training at Terry Kurth’s Madison location, Griffith was ready to open his own Weed Man franchise. Griffith is now open and operating throughout the northwest suburban area. Currently, he is hiring 30 to 40 part-time workers who will begin this spring.
Weed Man USA is a network of locally-owned and operated lawn care businesses providing environmentally responsible fertilization, weed control and integrated pest management services. Weed Man entered the U.S. market in 1995 through a licensing agreement with Turf Holdings, Inc. Today Weed Man helps support franchisees in more than 265 territories throughout the United States.
