Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham is reminding residents that Jan. 29 is the last day to register to vote for the Feb. 26 consolidated primary election, other than at the clerk’s office.
Primaries will be held this year in Kane County in the city of Elgin for the open two-year term on the city council, and in Aurora Township. Therefore, the dates for the February primary only affect people living within those two jurisdictions.
The clerk’s office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for registration until Jan. 29 for the consolidated primary in Elgin and Aurora Township. Voter registration will continue for all other Kane County residents.
A registration grace period for the consolidated primary also will be available, but only in the Kane County Clerk’s Office, from Wednesday, Jan. 30, until Saturday, Feb. 23.
Registration will resume on Thursday, Feb. 28, for city of Elgin and Aurora Township residents.
The Kane County Clerk’s Voter Registration Office is in Building B at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31), Geneva.
To register, a person must be a United States citizen, 18 years old on or before the date of the election, a resident of the precinct for 30 days prior to the election, and provide two forms of identification, one of which shows a current name and address.
Kane County residents may check their registration online by going to www.kanecountyelections.org and click on “Are you registered” and following the directions on the page.
