A storm that will likely yield sleet, snow and freezing rain is expected to move through Northeastern Illinois Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.
“It looks like a big sloppy mess will come rolling in mid-evening, continuing into the overnight hours,” said Gino Izzi, who is a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Romeoville.
While sleet and snow could prove to be an annoyance, road travel may become perilous if freezing rain is included in the mix, Izzi said.
“Anytime you get any freezing rain, roadways become dangerous,” Izzi said.
After unseasonably balmy weather on Friday and Saturday afternoon, overnight temperatures are expected to plunge to the 20s, where they will likely hover for most of Sunday, the weather service said.
The weather service indicated that as much as an inch of precipitation could fall on the area before sunrise on Sunday.
After that, expect the weather to be dry and cold for the next couple of days, according to the weather service.
