ELGIN — A family in the 500 block of Algona Avenue returned from their Christmas vacation to find their home had been burglarized and their vehicles stolen, police said.

The residents said they returned home Sunday after a monthlong vacation to find a rear window broken and boarded up. They said they had received a letter in the mail indicating Elgin Code Enforcement had boarded up the window on Dec. 29.

Missing from the home were a 32-inch plasma TV, a gaming system, a Pioneer car audio system, two sets of car keys and a digital camera. Both a 1998 Chevy Venture and a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck also were missing from the home’s driveway.

Slats from a gate across the driveway had been broken off, police said. The Venture later was found at a Schaumburg towing facility, where it had been taken after being found abandoned in Hoffman Estates, according to reports. Police said the Dodge Ram has not yet been located.
