Child molesting: Sergio Tinajero, 52, of the 0-100 block of Robin Road, Carpentersville, was charged with a Class X felony count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under the age of 13, as well as three Class 2 felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child under the age of 13. According to police, Tinajero is accused of sexually assaulting the child between August 2010 and June 2012. Bail was set Thursday at $150,000, and he was assigned a Jan. 24 court date.
Tinkler hearing postponed: Thursday’s hearing for accused cat-hoarder William Tinkler of Elgin was postponed on the request of his attorney. The appearance was rescheduled to 9 a.m. on Feb. 21 in the Elgin City Hall courtroom.
Jewelry taken: A diamond ring, a gold necklace and two gold bracelets were among jewelry reported stolen Tuesday from a home in the 200 block of Villa Street. According to the victim, she returned home at 3:30 p.m. to find her jewelry lock box had been pried open.
Muggers take keys, cellphone: A man walking home at 2:30 a.m. Monday told police he was mugged by two men who took his shoes, work and apartment keys, wallet, work shirt, cellphone and backpack. According to police, the man said he was walking on Woodview Drive when two men, one wearing a black ski mask, tackled him and held him down while punching him. The victim’s roommate told police she had seen a man wearing all black and a black ski mask at about 3 a.m. in the area of East Chicago Street and Poplar Creek Drive but did not call police. The mugging victim reported the attack and robbery at about 6:20 a.m.
Distraction theft: An employee at Walgreens, 600 Villa St., told police that after making change for a man at 5 p.m. Monday, he noticed $180 in bills missing from the cash register. According to the teller, the man had purchased a greeting card, then asked for change for various denominations of bills. After the man had left, the teller noticed the money gone, police said.
