Woman choked, city property damaged: Shamar D. Jefferson, 27, of the 0-100 block of Oxford Road, Carpentersville, was charged with felony counts of aggravated domestic battery/strangulation and aggravated battery/strangulation, as well as misdemeanor counts of interfering with the reporting of domestic battery and two domestic battery counts. After his arrest, he also was charged with a Class 4 felony count of criminal damage to government-supported property on Tuesday. According to police, Jefferson is accused of damaging a cell door at the Carpentersville police station after his initial arrest. On Wednesday a judge set his bail at $45,000 for all counts, and assigned him a Jan. 3 court date.
Intimidation: Suzanne L. Austin, 45, of Lake Zurich, was charged with a felony count of intimidation stemming from a domestic battery incident. According to police, Austin, the mother of Shamar D. Jefferson, arrived at the Carpentersville Police Department after her son’s arrest on Tuesday to demand that her son be released, then went to the address on Oxford Road and demanded that the victim call police and ask them to drop the charges. After receiving that call, police said, they returned to the Oxford address to speak to the victim and found Austin at the home. The victim told police she had been harassed and intimidated into making the call, police said. Bail for Austin was set at $1,500 cash, and she was given a Jan. 3 court date.
Credit card fraud: Deborah S. Roche, 41, of the 200 block of North Crystal Street, Elgin, was charged with a Class 3 felony count of unlawful use of a credit card stemming from a Dec. 5 incident. She is accused of using another person’s credit card to purchase food, gasoline and cigarettes. On Wednesday, a judge set her bail at $20,000 and assigned her a Jan. 2 court date.
Burglary on Hill: A home in the 100 block of Hill Avenue was burglarized while the residents were away Tuesday, police said. A resident told police her son returned home at 3:45 p.m. and found the front door window broken in. Missing were a 32-inch LED TV, a cellphone and a gaming system and games, as well as miscellaneous jewelry.
East Dundee man charged: The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reported that Gregory P. Bailey, 30, of the 600 block of Howard Avenue, East Dundee, was charged with battery and criminal damage to property on Wednesday morning after allegedly assaulting his father and breaking several windows in his father’s home, in the 11000 block of Ellwood Greens Road in Genoa.
